Wat Mahathat, Ayutthaya : Thailand


Wat Mahathat was the home of the Supreme Patriarch, a powerful religious force in Ayutthaya temple (under a different name) is created by Queen Rachathirat I received the current name around 1374 during the reign of King Ramesuan (R. 1388 -. 1395).
Today, central prang (tower) of the temple is ruined brick. Before collapsing in the reign of King Song Tham (R. 1610-1628) and was repaired during the reign of Chao following King Prasat Thong (R. 1629-1656) reconstruction of the prang to 44 meters and 50 meters. Then when the 6-meter metal spire was added.

Wat Chaiwatthanaram, Ayutthaya : Thailand


Wat Chaiwatthanaram is an imposing monastery located in the west of Ayutthaya on the Chao Phraya River. It was built by King Prasat Thong in 1630 and its architecture is similar to that of Angkor Wat in Cambodia and it may have been built to commemorate the King victory over Thailand neighbour. The temple comprises a main prang (or tower) which is 35 meters tall surrounded by a series of smaller prangs situated alongside a gallery containing over 100 Buddha images. The temple is spacious and its well-kept grounds are peaceful. Well worth a visit if history and culture are your interest.
Fee: Admission to the temple is 20 Baht and opening hours are 08:00 to 18:00.
How to go: You can reach the temples ruins by bicycle if you have hired one, and a Tuk-Tuk fare will be in the 30 Baht range from the town centre. Long-tail boat services are available from Chankasem Palace at around 350 Baht for the full one-hour round trip.

Wat Mahaeyong - Ayutthaya: Thailand


Wat Maheyong is located in the opposite direction of Wat Yai Chai Mongkol. The restoration work had been done and upon our visit on June 24, 2001, this temple is much more attractive. The parking lot for tourist is provided, while the compound is nicely improved. The main large chapel is restored and some Buddha images are installed.

Wat Phananchoeng (วัดพนัญเชิงวรวิหาร)


Wat Phananchoeng is (on the Bang Pa-in Rd, about 1.5km out of town) is a working wat which contains the oldest large cast bronze Buddha image in Ayutthaya, though it was covered in scaffold in June 2006 for refurbishment. There is a small room to the right of the main hall which contains a nice collection of Buddha images and the room is painted with many individual unique pictures, in bright colours offset with gold. A 20 baht temple donation per person is asked for.

Remarkably, the 19-meter high gilded statue of Buddha in the attitude of submission of the Mara from the year 1334, which is one of the largest ancient Buddha statues in the country. She has a knee-span of 20.1 meters. It is called in Thai Luang Pho Tho (หลวง พ่อ โต), designated by the Chinese, but when Sam Pao Kong (Thai: ซำ เปา ก ง). He is regarded as the protector of trade and seafaring. It is also the legend, Luang Pho Tho shortly before the destruction of Ayutthaya by the Burman "tears from her eyes to the sacred holy navel" flowed. [2]

The eastern entrance to the Viharn Luang Pho Tho can be reached via a T-shaped, roofed hall, in whose center stands a statue of Kuan Yin. This statue is highly revered by the Chinese believers. The high entrance gate to the main Viharn is flanked by long tables, where golden Chinese characters are displayed on a red background.

North and south are attached to the T-shaped hall, two smaller Viharn. In the southern Viharn there are three statues of Buddha in Sukhothai-style, one is made of gold ( "พระทอง"), one from Nak (พระ นา ก), a Thai copper-gold alloy, one is made of plaster. The walls are adorned with the northern Viharn strange-looking paintings depicting the offerings in the Chinese style.

Chao Sam Phraya National Museum


Chao Sam Phraya National Museum of Arts and Crafts of the characteristics of the Thai Ayutthaya era. The number of ancient Buddha statues are presented together with the local relics, carved panels, the Thai Buddhist sculpture and other objects in the local temples. A good place to visit for people interested in the history of the region, but probably best to visit with the others, if you have enough time.

Details: The museum is open daily, except Mondays, Tuesdays and holidays from 09.00 to 16.00. Entrance fee is 10 Baht.

Directions: The museum is located opposite the Thai Tourism Authority, and Rajabhat Institute Rotchana near the intersection of roads and Si Sanphet Road. Tuk-Tuk rate from the middle of the two costs about 30 Baht. see other destination in Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya Historical Study Centre : Ayutthaya Thailand

For visitors who come to see the glory of ancient Ayutthaya and would like to learn more about their role in a short time, visit the historical center of Ayutthaya. Center is a museum and Reserch Institute. Its main building is a prominent place in ROJANO Road, near Ayutthaya Rajabhat Institute.
The museum is on the top floor of a two-storey building, very different from the usual museum in Thailand, which is equipped with beautiful lighting, upgrading the international museum Stander.
The museum exhibits are divided into 5 groups: Ayutthaya as the capital, as a port of Ayutthaya, Ayutthaya, the central government, the life of farmers in Thailand and Ayutthaya relations with other countries.
The focus of the Archaeological Museum of exposure are carefully controlled by the Ministry of Fine Arts.

Wat Borom Phuttharam : Ayutthaya, Thailand

Situated inside Rajabhat University Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, the north-facing temple was built some time during 1688–1703 during the reign of King Phetracha on his former residence area near the main gate of the southern city wall. Its location and area plan was confined to be in the north-south direction by ancient communication routes; namely, Khlong Cha Krai Noi in the east and a royal pathway known as Thanon Maha Ratthaya or Thanon Pa Tong in the west. Unlike other temples, the king had all buildings roofed with yellow glazed tiles and the temple became known as “Wat Krabueang Khlueap” or the “glazed tile temple”. The construction took 2 years and the temple underwent a major renovation in the reign of King Borommakot, who had 3 pairs of door panels decorated with fine mother-of-pearl inlays. One pair of them is currently at Ho Phra Monthian Tham inside the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the second is at Wat Benchamabophit (The Marble Temple), and the third was turned into cabinets and is now exhibited at the Bangkok National Museum. one good destination in Ayutthaya.
