This topic is very relevant to my blog. Malaysia is a country that has nature resources i.e. it is one of its great assets. Most of tourist visit Malaysia is because of its nature environment i.e flora and fauna. I urged to all of our tourists - current and future.. to really take care of our environment, bring back all your bottle or plastic covers etc from your hiking to Mount Kinabalu, no bring back the corals, see only please. Don't destroy our treasure for our children..

Please support this movement. It is for the good of every single person in this planet. Make a better place for our future generations...

Twenty world-class powerboat drivers from 11 countries, including reigning champion Alex Carella of Italy, will vie for honours in the inaugural 2007 Sabah F2000 World Cup Powerboat Race in this coming 1st - 2nd December.

As the last race of the year, the Sabah leg will surely be a thriller when the drivers push themselves to the limit to claim the final honours of the season. This prestigious world-class event was timely as it coincides with Visit Malaysia Year 2007 campaign.

Redang - Paradise Island

Redang Island, locally known as Pulau Redang or just "Redang" is one of the largest islands off the east coast of Malaysia. It is a popular holiday island for Malaysians, most of whom come on package deals to one of the resorts. Redang is one of nine islands, which form a marine park, and which offer snorkeling and diving opportunities.

The island is also an important conservation site for sea turtles. Previously, the indiscriminate economic exploitation of turtle eggs had caused fewer turtles returning to nest on the island. The waters around Pulau Redang also contain two historic shipwrecks. H.M.S Prince of Wales and H.M.S Repulse were sunk here at the start of World War II, setting the stage for the Japanese occupation of Malaya.

The Pulau Redang archipelago comprises Pulau Redang, Pulau Lima, Pulau Paku Besar, Pulau Paku Kecil, Pulau Kerengga Kecil, Pulau Kerengga Besar, Pulau Ekor Tebu, Pulau Ling and Pulau Pinang. Pulau Redang is the biggest of all the islands in the Marine Park, measuring about 7 km long and 6 km wide. It's highest peak is Bukit Besar at 359 metres above sea level. The boundary of the Pulau Redang Marine Park is established by a line linking all points 2 nautical miles from the shores of Pulau Redang, Pulau Lima, Pulau Ekor Tebu and Pulau Pinang.

The other nearby islands of Pulau Perhentian Besar, Pulau Perhentian Kecil, Pulau Lang Tengah, Pulau Kapas and Pulau Susu Dara are also gazetted and protected as Marine Parks. Today, only the bigger islands like Redang, Lang Tengah, Perhentian and Kapas have resort facilities for visitors.

Best Time to Visit
Best Time To VisitBetween March and October. Take note that most resorts are closed during the North-east Monsoon, which blows from November to February

How to Get There

No matter which way you choose to arrive, a marine park fee (RM5) is levied on all visitors to the island. Transfers can be arranged directly with resorts.

By plane
Berjaya Air has recently opened an airstrip on Redang (code RDN), located on the north side of the island near the Berjaya Redang Beach Resort. As of July 2005, there is one daily flight each to and from Kuala Lumpur (RM249 one-way) and Singapore (RM350 one-way). Tha airport is connected by roads to both of Berjaya's own resorts and to the southern fishing port, however transfers from the airport to anywhere else will require a combined car & ferry ride that must be arranged in advance.

By boat
The traditional way to get to Redang is by boat. The main jetty is at Merang, some 30 km north from Kuala Terengganu. From Merang, the trip to Pasir Panjang takes about 40 minutes on comfortable, large speedboats and prices are more or less standardized at RM40/80 one-way/return.
