Happy Pepero Day!

Happy Pepero Day!

Today is 11.11.10
Next year gonna be 11.11.11
Hmmm..nice numbersssssssss
I bet many people getting married today and probably next year. ^^ Congratulations!

Why the date 11.11 is celebrated as pepero day?
Pepero is fondly known as Pocky in Malaysia.  If you put 4 sticks of pepero together, don't they resemble 11.11?

Couples in Korea observe this date almost like Valentine's Day. They will exchange candies, chocolate and especially Pepero!

I still remember that Hojin gave me a box of Pepero on 11.11 of 2009. He wished me Happy Pepero and I was so happy for getting a mere box of Pepero!

If you happen to be in Korea on 11.11, you will see boxes of Pepero sold cheaply and couples walk away with presents or chocolates in their hands.

Pepero (빼빼로) is a cookie stick, dipped in chocolate syrup, manufactured by Lotte Confectionery in South Korea since 1983.[1] It was inspired by the Japanese product, Pocky produced by Glico.[2] (Source: Wikipedia)

鳥-ノーいち - Tori-no-Ichi (Rake Fair)

Tori-no-Ichi (Rake Fair)

A fair passed down since the Edo Period, thriving with people praying for good business

Dates:The days of the Tori or Rooster in November
(the date changes each year, so please check the Japanese calendar)
Places:Otori-jinja Shrine and other shrines
City: 3-18-7, Senzoku, Taito-ku, Tokyo

Tori or rooster is one of the Junishi or the twelve animal signs of the Oriental zodiac - namely, rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and wild boar. Formerly, the Japanese used to combine these twelve zodiac signs with the system of Jikkan (the ten celestial stems), which were applied to each year and each day. The Tori-no-Ichi is conducted according to old Japanese customs, and is held on the days of the rooster in November. Days of the rooster occur every 12 days in November, which means that the month of November has at least 2 or even 3 days of the rooster, depending on the year.

The Tori-no-Ichi is a fair held on the days of the rooster in November at various Otori-jinja shrines found in all parts of Japan. This fair is sometimes called by the familiar name of Otori-sama. The patron deity of good fortune and successful business is enshrined at Otori-jinja shrines which have many worshippers, and on these days of the rooster, a fair is set up in the precincts, with open-air stalls selling kumade rakes for 'raking in wealth and good fortune.'This good-luck rake is made of bamboo and is decorated with masks and koban (old gold coins).

Although the Otori-jinja Shrine in Taito-ku, quite close to Asakusa, is the most famous shrine for the Tori-no-Ichi fair, similar fairs are also held in about 30 other shrines in Tokyo such as Hanazono-jinja Shrine in Shinjuku-ku, Kitano-jinja Shrine in Nakano-ku and Ebara-jinja Shrine in Shinagawa-ku. Moreover, when a rake is sold, it is common practice for the seller and buyer to clap their hands rhythmically in harmony with one another (known as tejime). Quite a few people visit the fair just to hear the lively shouts which always accompany these hand clapping ceremonies.

Gorgeous floats dash up a steep slope.
The fireworks displays lighting up the winter evening sky are spectacular.

Dates: December 2nd and 3rd
Places:Chichibu Shrine
City:1-1, Banba-machi, Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture

Chichibu Yomatsuri is a festival of Chichibu Shrine which has a history of more than 2,000 years. It is one of Japan's three greatest hikiyama (float) festivals, together with the Gion Matsuri of Kyoto (July 1st-31st) and the Takayama Matsuri of Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture (April 14th and 15th, and October 9th and 10th).

The main attraction of this festival takes place on the 3rd (the 2nd features an event held on the eve called Yoiyama). Two kasaboko which are large parasol-like objects decorated on top with weapons such as spears, and artificial flowers together with four yatai floats shaped like small houses are paraded through the city streets. In the afternoon, the floats are transformed into stages by pulling out wings on either side, where Kabuki plays are performed.

The most exciting scene of the festival unfolds on the evening of the 3rd when kasaboko and yatai floats, weighing 10-20 tons each and lit up with countless lanterns, climb up a steep slope with a mikoshi (a portable shrine). The spectators' excitement reaches its peak at the powerful sound of the drums and flutes, and the unique festival shouts of 'Ho-ryai! Ho-ryai!' The fireworks illuminating the clear winter evening skies are another of the attractions of this festival.

Roso Vivo Dine & Lounge in kuta

“Rosso Vivo means ‘bright red’, a colour that has long been associated with bold elegance, brazen allure and, of course, flaming passion. You don’t mess with red, yet – like fire – it can be very tempting to touch.”

Italian cuisine is among the world’s richest and most varied. It is also exceedingly popular, and for this reason – combined with the need to satisfy Bali’s significant number of Italian visitors and residents – there is a wide choice of Italian restaurants on the island. Some of these eateries revel in exquisite subtleties, while others simply go for the gut. From Italian fine dining thru authentic regional home cooking “just like Mama used to make”, to pasta parlours and pizza huts, Bali has it all. Rosso Vivo, on Kuta’s beach road, however, slots into a niche of its own.

With a casual atmosphere, drop-in clientele and live music (check out the funky jazz on Sunday evenings from 5pm with Rio from Saharadja), combined with alfresco dining beside a swimming pool, comfortable lounge seating and a stylish interior, Rosso Vivo doesn’t fit the category of fine dining, and nor does it claim to, especially as it is so affordable. Nevertheless, if you haven’t yet eaten at this restaurant, you will be amazed by the high standard of the food, and if you already have, you will most certainly want to return.

At Rosso Vivo, the passion and earnestness of Chef Roberto from Milano, combined with the quality, freshness and seasonality of the ingredients, turns a seemingly ordinary menu into a road map to pure pleasure. And such was our experience last week.

We began with the beef carpaccio – wafer thin shavings of meat marinated in olive oil and lemon juice and served with salad leaves. Yes, I know this is a cliché but it came close to melted in our mouths. We also gorged a colourful salad comprising crispy chunks of pear, lettuce and carrot rolled up into scrolls, tossed with crunchy walnuts and oodles of soft, creamy gorgonzola. Cheese is an expensive gourmet ingredient in Bali, and many restaurants here are mean with their portions, so I revelled in delight when I saw the generous servings of my favourite blue.

For our main courses, we chose from the menu of Chef’s suggestions, which offers delights such as ‘Farfalle al Salmone’ in pink peppercorn and cream sauce (Rp 92K), or ‘Grilled Sword Fish’ with almonds, capers and anchovy emulsion, served with rucola and lemon salad (Rp 90K) or ‘Wild Chicken’ Cajun style accompanied by crispy rosemary potato (Rp 85K). We selected and shared the ‘Conchuglie San Giacomo’ in salsa verde (Rp 90K), which is oven baked scallops in cognac, butter, anchovies and parsley sauce.

If you ever loved a bivalve, you owe yourself this romance. Chef Roberto’s pièce de résistance, however, proved to be the ‘Fettuccine ai Ricci di Mare’ (Rp 180K). A ‘riccio’ is a hedgehog in Italian, and a ‘ricci di mare’ is a hedgehog of the sea, in other words a sea urchin. Or, to be more precise, sea urchin roe, which unexpectedly melts down into the creamiest of rich, natural pasta sauces.

Served with lemon zest, tomato concasse and cream, the dish had a deep marine undercurrent, and even if you didn’t know what it was, you would somehow know it was seafood. It was a totally new experience for us and it was magnificent!
Funnily enough, we thought we didn’t have room for dessert, but when a knockout, steaming, chocolate soufflé with a hot melted chocolate centre and a contrastingly frozen scoop of vanilla ice cream appeared on our table, we eagerly devoured it with equal enthusiasm.

Proof indeed that Rosso Vivo hits the mark and then some.

Here you can watch the stars (the ceiling can be slid open when good weather), have a good look at other patrons, chat with your friends or just listen to some Arabic and Oriental tunes played in the background.

Great food - exotic and delicious
For chilling out you can just order some tea and fresh white sesame or olive bread with yogurt dip, but you would miss out on the great food which is served here. The menu contains an exciting blend of moroccan dishes, all home-cooked and freshly prepared. There are all kinds of chicken, beef, lamb and vegetarian dishes; serve as well the all-time favourites like shish kebabs, falafel, couscous, humus and sweet desserts.

Travel to the United States, prepared to face tight security

Here's what you need to know about the scanner body and Secure Flight, a new program that requires travelers to provide more information when booking tickets.

The presence of body scan tool grows in various U.S. airports. Officially known as the Advanced Imaging Technology machines, scan tool will take a detailed picture of the human body.

Currently, there are nearly 300 scanning device in 61 U.S. airports, whether large or small. However, it is only a fraction of 382 primary airports that are listed in the U.S. Department of Transportation. Scanning device is used in big cities like San Francisco, Miami and Las Vegas, but not in New York.

Transportation Security Administration, which oversees airport security, hoping to have 450 machines that everything will be installed at the end of the year, although not told the new location. This machine will be able to detect plastic or chemical explosives, and weapons are not made of metal.

There are two types of scan tools. One of them is a portal which requires the passenger side six feet in it with his hands above his head, while the radio wave technology to check the body to produce three-dimensional image.
