Competitors for Ironman Malaysia Triathlon will have a very rough course to complete to obtain the coveted prizes. Set on the Equator with tropical hot and humid temperatures, Langkawi will give even seasoned athletes a professional and personal challenge.
This year’s triathlon installment consists of several obstacles, namely:
- Swimming – Athletes begin their day with a two-loop swim in the Kuah Bay, beginning and ending at the waters beside the prominent Dataran Lang (Eagle Square).
- Cycling – The 180.2km route begins at the Jetty after athletes complete their initiating swim. The terrain for this three-loop course is a combination of flat land and hills.
- Running – With a fairly acceptable terrain, athletes should feel comfortable to complete this obstacle. However, even the strongest athletes have a hard time running in the heat of Langkawi in February. The total of 42.2km run begins and ends at the Dataran Lang (Eagle Square) in Kuah.
